The Historical Museum de Bevelanden in collaboration with the European Art Quilt Foundation organises a unique exhibition of ART QUILTS and textile art of great variety. From 1 July to 3 September works of art from 18 European countries are on view at the “Oudemanhuis”, Zusterstraat 11 in Goes. The participants are all artists who exhibited their work during the past 25 years in one of the eight European Art Quilt Foundation’s exhibitions. All the exhibits concern artists’ RECENT work. The exhibition spreads across all three floors of the building. The building is accessible for wheel chairs and an elevator is available. Entry tickets can be purchased from the reception at the museum next to the “Oudemanhuis”.

Textile art
The objects on show concern high level textile art from all parts of Europe. Therefore the  differences in culture, climate and tradition are clearly visible. The objects presentation ranges from realism to abstract and from gentle to confrontational. It is a highly colourful exhibition showing two-dimensional work as well as three dimensional installations. With this exhibition the European Art Quilt Foundation certainly lives up to its objective of drawing attention to this form of ART.

Goes Asia Year
As this year is Asia Year in Goes, it is worth mentioning that techniques from Asia used in textile art are included. These techniques are shibori and batik, shibori being a painting technique with a Japanese name which is also applied in other countries. Batik is a technique from Java (Indonesia). Both painting techniques use blocking out specific parts of the material for the colouring in order to achieve special colour effects.

Opening hours of the exhibition : Mondays to Fridays from 11.00 hrs – 16.30 hrs, Saturdays and Sundays from 13.00 hrs to 16.30 hrs.
